Not earning more than you need is the best form of charity.
let's explain.
1) If you earn more than you need and keep it to yourself; you are depriving other needy people.
2) If you earn more than you need and give surplus to charity; you deprive the needy people to earn based upon their effort and charity goes to target of your choice instead of next person putting in efforts to earn it.
3) Not earning more than you need keeps the resources open to everyone ready to earn by their own effort. Here, nature will give it to next most eligible person.
Hence, live simple life and be happy without worry to earn excess and then worry whom to give excess to...
